QIU Deputy Dean Grabs Best Presentation Win at International Food and Industrial Crops Conference

Our Faculty of Integrated Life Sciences (FILS) has developed quite a reputation for excelling at international scientific conferences, and we’re glad to announce another fantastic win!

This time, the glory comes from none other than the FILS’ Deputy Dean Associate Professor Ts. Dr Wendy Liu Ying Ying, who won Best Oral Presentation at the International Conference on Food and Industrial Crops 2022 (ICFIC2022).

Dr Wendy’s presentation, titled: “Effect of nutrient priming on the germination, growth and nutritional values of Amaranthus cruentus” shone the brightest among more than 20 other presenters from local and international institutes.

Her competition included universities and research institutes from Malaysia, Nigeria and Jordan—including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, the University of Illorin, and Hashemite University.

The ICFIC2022 was part of three concurrent international conferences held at the Congress on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (COSAFS2022), which was held from September 21–24 in Kuching, Sarawak.

The ICFIC2022 focused on the sustainable development of food and industrial crops in Malaysia and around the globe.

COSAFS2022 was organised by the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus in collaboration with Sarawak’s Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development.

The conference is a forum to learn about sustainable farming techniques, innovation and technology, community food systems, national and global food policies, and any programme that promotes sustainable agriculture and food security.

Dr Wendy’s win is the latest in a stellar run of presentation success by our students and academics. Our lecturers have won awards at the YSN-ASM International Scientific Virtual Conference 2021 and the Global Biotechnology Conference. And only two months ago, we swept nine awards at the QIU Intervarsity Science Symposium.

Congratulations, Dr Wendy. Thank you for putting the QIU name in lights again!
