Learning the Art of Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is an important field for many of our students, especially for those taking Advertising, Corporate Communication, Business Administration and Computer Science.

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming local entrepreneur Harvey Foo to conduct an enlightening talk on the subject of entrepreneurship.

Foo, an ACCA member and an Accounting graduate from Universiti Malaya (UM), is the Founder and Chief Problem Solver of  Bo Le Services, a consulting firm to SMEs.

He is also the Vice President of Operations of Wealcaps Berhad, a startup incubator which invests in startups and connects entrepreneurs to investors professionally via Information Memorandum (IM) and Pitch Deck.

Foo is a committee member of the Business Network International (BNI) Pioneer Chapter, which is a chapter of the largest business referral platform in the world.

The talk, organised by the Faculty of Business and Management, delved into the topics of business etiquette and the importance of having a positive mentality.

Foo said this was particularly important when meeting new people and choosing the right business partners.

“Have a good mindset and surround yourself with good people, and you will enjoy doing business with your partners,” Foo advised.

“They (potential partners) will need someone good or reliable to invest in so you must be the reason someone believes in good people.”

Foo also shared his experience with businesses, giving students some useful tactics on how to secure deals with investors and the importance of sharpening soft skills.

He also advised them not to limit themselves to one field of expertise.

All in all, the talk was not only enlightening but also motivational for our students.

We’re certain that it gave them the push they needed in both studies and the working world. Thank you again to Mr Harvey Foo for graciously sparing his time and effort to be with us!
