Industry Day 2025: Partnerships, Engagement and Opportunity on Campus

QIU’s signature Industry Day returned this week, bringing employers, partners and students together for a day of career-building, networking, and partnership development. Held across multiple venues on campus, the event once again underscored QIU’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates through experiential learning and strong industry engagement.

This year’s programme featured a full day of career talks, engaging forums, interactive workshops, and employer booths where students connected directly with recruiters, explored job opportunities, and took part in on-the-spot interviews. More than 60 industry partners from diverse sectors—from finance and biotechnology to hospitality and manufacturing—took part, offering valuable insights into emerging trends and practical pathways into the workplace.

This year’s event was held in collaboration with the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Perak and PERKESO—and we were excited to host MICCI Perak chairman Mr. Jean-François Chavériat and PERKESO Perak recruitment specialist Priya Tarisini A/P Gunasegran during the event.

One of the highlights of Industry Day 2025 was the presentation of the Plenitude Scholarships, a landmark initiative by Plenitude Berhad in partnership with QIU. First launched through an MoU in 2023, the scholarship provides full financial support—including tuition fees and living expenses—for QIU students pursuing studies in hospitality, business and finance, accounting, or engineering. It also includes internship opportunities and a clear pathway to employment within Plenitude’s group of companies.

This year, two exceptional students received the prestigious award:

  • Ms. Chong Yee Kee, Diploma in Hospitality Management graduate and current President of the Hospitality Club, who will continue her studies towards a degree in Hospitality Management.
  • Mr. Wong Joen Hong, an intern at Travelodge, recognised for his diligence and positive attitude, who will pursue his Degree in Hospitality Management.

Both recipients embody the scholarship’s spirit of excellence and potential, and were celebrated as future leaders in their fields.

Another key feature of Industry Day 2025 was the signing of two new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that deepen QIU’s strategic links with industry leaders.

  • Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd, a leading glove manufacturers, formalised a partnership with QIU to promote collaboration in education, training, and industry engagement. This MoU reflects the shared commitment to equipping students with skills aligned with global industry needs, and was signed by Chief Human Resources Officer Mr Yoon Siew Fei.

  • Cheers Education Sdn Bhd, represented by its director, Mr Eric Chia, entered into an MoU that will integrate the CHEERS Student Success Pathway into QIU’s academic framework. This collaboration leverages AI-driven auditing, financial reporting, and data analysis tools to prepare students—particularly in accounting and finance—for the digital demands of modern industry.

Industry Day 2025 also showcased a rich programme of forums that gave students and guests an inside look at the opportunities and challenges shaping their fields.

The first forum, titled “The Glamorous World of Entertainment: How to Break Through and Achieve Success?”, drew a large crowd of students keen on exploring careers in the creative industry. Moderated by Ibrahim Sani, CEO of Yayasan Peneraju and Industry Advisor for QIU’s Bachelor of Mass Communications (Honours) Journalism, the discussion featured insights from Feisal Azizuddin (film producer and co-founder of Feisk Productions) and Syazani Zikry, a Malaysian actor. Together, they shared first-hand experiences of navigating Malaysia’s entertainment scene, highlighting the perseverance, creativity, and business acumen needed to thrive in a highly competitive field.

The second forum, “Career and Trends in Life Sciences,” brought together experts from environmental technology, biotechnology, food technology, and industrial research to discuss the future of life sciences in Malaysia and beyond. Chaired by Prof. Dr. Vilasini Pillai, Dean of QIU’s Faculty of Integrated Life Sciences, the panel included Ts. Dr. Mahaletchumy Arujanan (Executive Director, Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre), Dr. Sharifah Syed Alwee (Managing Director, Serasi Business Solutions), Pn. Sharidah Yusoff (Vice President, Malaysian Institute of Food Technology), Mr. Shaman Gaspar (Regional Director, Infors Southeast Asia), and Mr. Prasath Rajandhiran (Production Manager, Camfil Malaysia). The conversation explored biotechnology innovations, food security, industry talent needs, and the role of young graduates in pushing Malaysia’s life sciences sector forward.

Reflecting QIU’s emphasis on forward-looking skills, Industry Day also featured an interactive workshop titled “Automation 101: From Prompts to Agents—How AI is Changing the World,” conducted by DevCollective. The session was led by Nicholas Ooi, a proud QIU alumnus, who introduced students to the fundamentals of AI, practical applications of automation, and the rapid shift towards agent-driven systems.

Meanwhile, the Employer Engagement Series connected students with a diverse spectrum of companies, including McCann Kuala Lumpur’s chairman, Mr Tan Kian Eng, who is also an industry advisor for the Bachelor of Mass Communication (Honours) Advertising programme. Other companies included QI Services (M) Sdn Bhd, McCann Kuala Lumpur, Pusat Aspirasi Anak Perak (PASAK), KENANGA Investors Bhd (KIB), Pharmaniaga, Hartalega, Parkroyal Langkawi, Dex Venture—represented by another alumnus, Alex Goh— Huntier Artificial Intelligence Technology, and ND Papers (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

Industry Day 2025 continued the tradition established in past editions: providing a living bridge between classroom learning and industry realities. Students not only gained direct access to employers but also benefited from career clinics, CV workshops, and industry-led masterclasses designed to enhance their workplace readiness.

With initiatives such as the Plenitude Scholarships and new partnerships with Hartalega and Cheers Education, alongside inspiring forums and workshops, QIU is reaffirming its mission to integrate real-world opportunities into education. Industry Day has become more than an annual event—it is a platform for career breakthroughs, collaborative innovation, and long-term partnerships that shape the future of QIU graduates and the industries they will serve.
