Fun filled carnival with charity in mind

Quest International University Perak (QIUP) is always anchored by the fact  that it is the community of Ipoh in particular and Perak in general that has helped the university grow and flourish to what it is today.

With that in mind, the QIUP Food and Fun Carnival 2017 was organized as a way to say thank you and bring the community together for a day of laughter and fun. 68 children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim/Miskin Dahikmah, Gopeng and Praise Boys & Girls Home, Taman Merdeka, Ipoh were the guests of honour at this event held recently at its campus in Ipoh.

Yang Berhormat Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi, Perak State Exco for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Multimedia and Communications, in officiating the event, praised QIUP for the role it has played in bringing Perak to the forefront of education.

“I am pleased to say that QIUP has gone above and beyond being just an educational institution but rather has taken upon itself to bring the community together and propel Perak to the forefront of education globally.

“Organising the carnival today provides an avenue for the whole community to congregate together while not forgetting the less fortunate. The broad smiles on the faces of the children here today needs no elaboration.

“ I am made to understand that QIUP is the title sponsor and host university for the upcoming World Universities Invitational Debate 2017 (WUPID 2017) happening in December 2017 in Ipoh. This competition has attracted the world’s best such as University of Sydney who are currently world champions and University of Oxford who are ranked number one debate university and many other prestigious Universities. This is a great opportunity for the community in Ipoh to witness a competition of a global standard.

“And finally, with students from 31 countries studying at the university, QIUP has truly lived up to its name as an International university and has brought the world to Ipoh or we can also say it has brought Ipoh to the world” added Dato’ Nolee.

Chief Operating Officer of QIUP, Mr Nicholas Goh said that QIUP graduates will always be part of the community and be job ready when they graduate.

“We do not want to be another degree mill. We want our undergraduates to not only excel in their studies but also be actively participating in various conferences, sports and educational competitions during their study here. The successful organization of the food & fun fair today is a testament to that.

“To ensure that QIUP meet standards and also to gauge ourselves, we constantly send our students to compete in national and international academic competitions to see how we measure up against other Universities. This also builds confidence in our students . In a nod to the quality of students, teams from QIUP have already started bringing in accolades in national and international competitions in science, technology, medicine and humanities” stressed Mr. Goh.

Besides thanking the community, this event was also aimed at creating opportunities for QIUP Clubs and Societies to venture into meaningful activities, be independent and gain valuable experience in organization. This will further enhance their creativity, teamwork and  leadership skills which is vital when they enter the working world. The proceeds from this event will be used by Clubs and Societies to organize various activities and charitable events and reach out to the community.

This event was organized by QIUP Student Representative Council in collaboration with 19 Clubs and Societies. There was a total of 16 food stalls comprising Malay, Chinese, Indian and International food and more than 20 indoor fun games.
