Accountancy Students Win Best Research Paper Award at International Fintech Conference

Our academics and students have set a high standard of winning awards at national and international levels, and the Bachelor of Accountancy have hit those heights once again!

This time, our team won the Best Research Paper at the recent International Conference on Navigating the Fintech Frontier: Enriching Customer Experience Research.

Led by supervisor Norlela Awang Cha, the team of Nagiswary Raveendran, Kalaivaani Ramasamy, and Solaiyappan Adaikappan won over the conference, which brought together more than 100 presenters from countries such as India, Australia, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, France, and the UK.

The conference was recently organized by India’s Sri Ramakrishna College of Art & Science for Women (SRCAS) in collaboration with QIU’s Faculty of Business and Management.

The study, titled “Determinants of QR Mobile Payment Adoption Among Malaysian Consumers” (Student’s Final-Year Project)” examines the the key factors of the adoption of QR pay namely social influence,  estimated practicality, anticipated ease of operation, and user attitudes. More importantly, the research intends to investigate the mediating role of users’s attitudes between the factors and the adoption

The paper delves into cutting-edge FinTech research. In line with recent findings in the Fintech Report Malaysia 2023 which shows 1.7 billion transactions recorded in the year 2022, it is clear that QR payments have a vital role in the FinTech ecosystem.

As such, the study aims to investigate the determinants of QR payment adoption, providing valuable data for the government, policymakers, and the FinTech industry in Malaysia. Norlela and her team plan to publish the research findings in a highly-regarded international journal.

The conference marks a significant milestone in our collaboration with SRCAS, who signed an MoU with us in 2022.

The Head of our School of Accounting and Finance Dr Tanaraj Krishna was on hand to deliver the opening speech titled, “Fintech and Social Transformation: Reducing Poverty and Fueling Economic Growth” which covered financial inclusion, digital financial services, economic growth, social transformation and financial stability.

Congratulations to everyone involved with this fantastic conference! Let’s keep putting the QIU name in lights on the international stage!
