QIUP Computer Science undergraduates sweep top awards at Science & Engineering Exhibition (SEDEX 40)

QIUP’s Computer Science programme undergraduates, Dickson Chin, Wilson Ho, Ivan Fong and Wong Kok did the university proud when they clinched 3 top prizes at the recent 40th Science and Engineering Design Exhibition (SEDEX 40) organized and held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP).

Their project entitled “Intelligent Parking System” bagged 3 prizes, Gold Medal in Open Innovation Challenge category, Most Innovative Award and Best Poster Award.

Intelligent Parking is a parking guidance system that advices the motorist of available parking in multiple zones, allowing the motorist to make an informed decision on where to park long before they reach each critical decision making point. Using effective traffic and safety engineering, intelligent parking then effectively guides the motorists to open bays with minimum effort as short as possible time. Intelligent Parking also makes the most of available parking spaces and increases the profitability of parking facilities by implementing systemic parking.

The system allows recording of the time and fare of the vehicles, integrated with maps for location of the vehicles or parking bays and fare display. Intelligent parking also gives the client an effective tool to monitor, operate and maintain the entire parking facility effectively and efficiently.

This new Intelligent Parking System consists of a few major components such as the hardware part, charging and summon system, database, mobile application and web administrative system. The process of charging will be fully automated and alerts such as low balance will be send through your mobile app. Summon issued is also in digital form which allow you to pay online through mobile app.

We take this opportunity to congratulate the QIUP team for their brilliant project and look forward for more accolades to come.
