Research on Healthier Ageing Wins Best Presenter Award for Pharmacy Academic

It’s sometimes said that good ideas are rarely recognised in their own time—but we’d beg to differ.

QIU has created an admirable tradition of international award-winning, groundbreaking research, and the latest champion is the Faculty of Pharmacy’s Associate Professor Dr Adrian Ng Kwok Wen, for winning the Best Presenter Award in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Pharmacology track at the 6th International Pharmaceutical Research Conference (iPRC 2025).

Dr Adrian, who is Head of Basic Health Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, crafted a stellar presentation focusing on a novel formulation designed to reverse cellular senescence—a critical hallmark of ageing. His team’s work demonstrated how restoring mitochondrial function and enhancing cellular repair mechanisms could help rejuvenate cells and promote healthier ageing.

This innovative discovery marks an important step towards the development of next-generation anti-ageing therapeutics, positioning QIU at the forefront of impactful pharmaceutical research with global relevance.

His presentation landed him the top prize in a field of tough competition, including academics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the University of Cyberjaya, Chiang Mai University (Thailand), Rangsit University (Thailand), Universitas 17 Agustus (Indonesia), Fukuoka University (Japan), and Sunway University. The conference brought together distinguished experts and participants from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the USA, Japan, and beyond.

QIU celebrates Dr Adrian’s achievement as a reflection of the university’s commitment to excellence in research, innovation, and societal impact. His success not only elevates the Faculty of Pharmacy but also underscores the vital role of academia-industry collaborations in shaping the future of healthcare.

Congratulations once again, Dr Adrian!
