Youths from South Korea, Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia vowed the crowd with their excellent ideas to promote Kinta River as a Social and Business Attraction at the closing ceremony of the 4th Social Venture Youth Exchange (SVYE) programme held at M Roof hotel, here today.
Quest International University Perak (QIUP) played the role of host university for the SVYE programme which was organized in collaboration with Urban Youth Academy, Asia School of Business in collaboration with MIT Sloan and Asian Development Bank.
The week-long event began with the arrival of the youths in Ipoh on 25 July 2018 and culminated with the closing ceremony on 30 July. This programme saw 33 youths from South Korea, Philippines and Taiwan being paired with 33 undergraduates of QIUP.
Yang Berhormat Dr. Adul Aziz bin Bari, Perak State Exco member for Education, Environment, Green Technology & Information who officiated the event thanked the participants for their ideas and assured them that the ideas will be given due consideration by the state.
“I am also glad to note that you have undertaken the project to improve on our very own Kinta River to make it a social and business attraction and have presented your ideas for improving it thus improving our community.
Mr. Nicholas Goh, Chief Operating Officer of QIUP in welcoming the students, reminded them of the importance of youth exchange programme such as this and advised them to use their experience to make the world a better place.
“If you are unable to study abroad, then youth exchange programmes such as this provide tremendous benefits in terms of opening up your horizon to the world. The student does not only benefit from experiencing a different cultural environment but also experience a different intellectual discourse compared to the one he/she, may be used to in the home university.
The awards to the winners were presented by Yang Berhormat Tuan Tan Kar Hing, Perak State Exco member for Tourism, Culture & Arts.
The SVYE programme is aimed at connecting Universities and their students to promote exchange and collaboration on student entrepreneurship. This is done through building the capacity of youth in innovation and entrepreneurship and developing them as global citizens by improving empathy and multicultural understanding.
The event was also attended by QIUP Vice Chancellor, Dato’ Professor Dr. Raman Narayanasamy, Registrar, Mr. Muhammad MG Omar and senior members of the University’s management team.
