ABSTRACT

The cervical cancer screening programme has been instrumental in lowering the incidence of invasive cancer over the past half a century among women in developed nations. The discovery of the fact that this cancer has a causative link with the human papilloma virus gave a further fillip to medical research to identify additional preventive measures against it. These efforts resulted in a first-of-its-kind vaccine, to combat a cancer.

This journey has been very enlightening so far, and the long term results are awaited on the actual success story of this wonderful medical discovery. This seminar will highlight the relationship between cervical cancer and human papilloma virus and some details about the vaccine will also be presented.
