QIU Bags Best Newcomer University Award at IMPACT 2019

QIU certainly made an impact in their first appearance at the Immersion, Projects, Appreciation and Tribute (IMPACT) competition when it clinched the Best Newcomer University Award at the competition held at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang recently.

Advertising student Kourtney Goh added to QIU’s accolades when she was crowned as the 2nd Runner Up in the Feature writing competition which saw entries from local and international institutions of higher learning.

Her entertaining article, titled ‘Misadventures’, stood out for its wry humour and a keen sense of observation of a family trip to Berlin, Germany.

The brainchild of former Dean of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Professor Dato’ Dr Adnan Hussein, IMPACT was established in 2008 and first commenced as a platform for the School of Communication students from the majors of journalism, persuasive communication and film and broadcasting to exhibit their ideas and creative works to the media industry.

Today, IMPACT has become a prominent avenue for communication students of higher education institutions from all over Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region to network, share knowledge and collaborate with one another. This was proven with more than a hundred entries in the various categories by 23 universities from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia this year including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, UPSI, KDU, Petra Christian University, Universitas Sebelas Maret Indonesia, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Silpakorn University, Satya Wacana University and many more.

As a first-timer to this competition, QIU Communication students participated in the individual categories namely, Feature Writing, Photography, Public Speaking and Print Ads which served as a great exposure and training for our undergraduates.

Participation in IMPACT is a shining example of the university’s philosophy in encouraging students and academics to participate in local and international educational competitions as this is where they can truly equip themselves with unique experiences.

Heartiest congratulations to the QIU team for a great effort!
