2023 Industry Day Strengthens QIU’s Academia-Industry Bonds

The university’s annual Industry Day returned with resounding success, as a diverse spectrum of employers, companies and experts descended on our campus to share their wisdom and insights with our students.

Students had the chance to interact and network with multinational companies and household names like Astro, Genting, Hovid, Vale, and many more. They also attended on-the-spot interviews at the booths, while receiving expert advice on launching their careers and career pathways.

Under the Employment Engagement series, our budding professionals and entrepreneurs also listened to career talks, where they learned more about the skills required to excel in the working world.

As always, one of the most exciting moments came during the industry expert forum, which was titled “The Interplay of Human Expertise and AI Advancements in Financial Decision Making”. The discussion featured panellists from diverse financial sectors, including UHY Malaysia Audit Partner Tyler Tan Gim Heng, YES Financial Berhad founder and CEO John Chan Nin Yii and Blueprint Planning Licensed Financial Planner Gunaseelan Kannan, and was moderated by the Head of our Accounting and Finance School Dr Tanaraj Krishna.

On the same day, QIU further augmented our academia-industry ties, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UHY Malaysia, a member of one of the largest international accounting and consultancy networks in the world. UHY International—which includes UHY Malaysia as one of its members— has offices in 81 countries worldwide.

The deal will see us working together to facilitate student internships and training at UHY, guest lecturers and workshops, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes, and incorporate UHY’s expertise into our curriculum. It was signed by QIU Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Goh and UHY Malaysia Audit Partner Tyler Tan Gim Heng.

All this will ensure our educational programmes stay current, relevant, and equipped to meet industry demands—just like the rest of the Industry Day programme!
