CDME 2020: 10 Industry Experts Share Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship Expertise

When you attend a conference, you expect to gain in-depth insight from two or three expert speakers.

But last Friday, QIU’s 2nd Conference on Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship (CDME2020) brought together not two, not three, but ten industry experts to share their expertise with our staff and students.

The conference was organised by the ‘Connecti’ Club, QIU’s newest society, who introduced themselves with a bang during the day-long event.
Themed ‘Towards Building an E-nation 2030’, the conference aimed to increase digital entrepreneurship awareness among the youth and propel them into exploring the many opportunities that the digital world has to offer.

“It is very rare to have a group of talented individuals who have succeeded in business together in one room like this. I hope that everyone here can maximise this opportunity and learn as much as they can,” said Faculty of Business and Management deputy dean Dr Jeffrey Yee.

“Today’s event is student-run, and we are very proud of them. This has given them the chance to learn from the experience of organising a full-fledged conference.”

The event kicked off with the founder of leading outdoor equipment brand PTT Outdoor Mike Chu, who delivered an intriguing talk titled ‘How We Went From Kitchen Table To Becoming An Award-Winning E-commerce Company’.

This was followed by Koh Tak Song, the trainer of e-commerce solutions provider KK Ecommerce, who conducted a workshop on Real-Life Strategies to Win in Marketplace E-Commerce.

Next, our staff and students had the chance to learn about the crucial digital marketing aspects of search engine optimisation, Google ads and Facebook from a workshop conducted by Digital Marketing Consultancy trainer Bob Lay Vee Han

The talks were wrapped up by Nicholas Tay, founder of digital agency Brandsight, which helps businesses maximise their digital appearance and engage effectively with their customers on digital media.

Tay’s fascinating talk was titled ‘From Passion to Profit – How I Turn My Skills to Business Worth Millions at My 20s’ – something that definitely piqued the interest of our students and staff alike!

In addition, our staff and students were given the opportunity to network and learn from Digital People Creative Director Amy Chandra, Specflux mobile app specialist Stephen Paul Samynathan, web design specialist Jonath Lee, WeChat Marketing specialist Frank Ho, Radica Software Chief Executive Officer Thomas Yip and Wealcaps Berhad vice-president Harvey Foo.

All in all, it was a memorable event that once again underlined the University’s dedication to blending theoretical education with cutting-edge knowledge from the movers and shakers in today’s business world.

“We are very happy to have the Connecti club running the event in line with the club’s objective of connecting students to the industry!” enthused Connecti club advisor and FBM senior lecturer Ricky Lee Weng Onn.

We’d like to thank all our guests for sharing their time and expertise with our students, and we look forward to the next incredible conference! Kudos to the organisers, participants and everyone involved in making CDME 2020 a success!
