Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary field that combines the knowledge of biology, chemistry, medicine, physics, engineering, and mathematics. It involves the use of living organisms together with various modern technologies to improve existing products or to produce new ones for the benefit of mankind and the environment.
Our 3.5-year course Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology (Honours) programme emphasizes current advances in biotechnology that increase agricultural yield, prevent/cure ailments, produce a healthier & cleaner environment and minimise hazardous waste production in industries. Students will be introduced to modern high-end laboratories equipped with the latest Biotechnology instruments. In their final year of studies, a mini-project will be assigned to each student to hone their research, innovation, and problem-solving skills to gain self-confidence during real-world experiences. This will be followed by 6 months of internship at Biotechnology companies or universities as practical training in an actual working environment.
The curriculum, delivered by experienced professional academics and industry experts, will enhance the students’ understanding of Biotechnology and real-life industry-related issues, equipping them with bio-entrepreneurship knowledge, presentation skills, and leadership qualities to succeed in their careers. Students graduating from the Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology (Honours) programme at QIU armed with these additional qualities and their knowledge in the current trends in Biotechnology will be outstanding candidates for even the most challenging of jobs.
Career Prospects:
Career opportunities for young Biotechnologists are broad and promising in the areas of agriculture, healthcare, industry, and others. They include the following positions:

Studying Biotechnology was a transformative experience for me. While I initially pursued the course with the intention of entering the Biotech industry, I unexpectedly found myself drawn towards the field of medical sales. The knowledge and skills I gained during my Biotechnology studies not only equipped me with a deep understanding of scientific concepts but also honed my communication and problem-solving abilities. Thanks to my background in Biotechnology, I seamlessly transitioned into a career as a medical sales representative. I am grateful for the solid foundation provided by my Biotechnology education, which has been instrumental in my success in the pharmaceutical sales industry.
Opting for a Biotechnology course was a strategic move in my pursuit of a sales career, and it turned out to be a game changer. Initially drawn to the dynamic nature of sales, I recognized the importance of acquiring specialized knowledge that would set me apart in the competitive job market. Choosing Biotechnology provided me with a unique blend of scientific expertise and business acumen, which proved invaluable as I navigated my way into the sales domain. The program not only deepened my understanding of biotechnological concepts but also honed my critical thinking and problem-solving skills – essential qualities for success in sales. Today, as a thriving sales professional, I credit my decision to pursue Biotechnology for laying the groundwork for a fulfilling and prosperous career in sales.
It’s been a journey that I will cherish for a lifetime. At first, I joined QIU to do my Foundation in Science and later on, I continued with my degree studies in Biotechnology with the vision of getting the best learning experience. From the very beginning, the institute and especially lecturers have been successful in engraving in us the sense of responsibility, curiosity, and the fire to go beyond our capacity. The years that I spent here have helped me grow professionally and personally. I am truly grateful for that.
