The Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Science is a postgraduate degree that enables students to explore research topics across a range of areas and disciplines within the scope of Medical Science.

The programme aims to equip postgraduates with advanced knowledge and specialised skills in medical sciences for impactful careers in research, healthcare, and academia.

Programme Education Objectives (PEO)

PEO1Graduates will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to independently contribute to sustainable advancement of knowledge in their specialized field of medical science.

PLO8Integrate knowledge across disciplines to foster lifelong learning, advance professional journeys, and translate discoveries in medical science into enhanced healthcare solutions through entrepreneurship.
  1. A master’s degree in the field or related fields accepted by the HEP Senate; or
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree recognised by the Government of Malaysia

A bachelor’s degree with the following conditions:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with first-class honours or its equivalent from an academic or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme;
    1. Undergo internal assessment; and
    2. Any other requirements of the HEP.

Bachelor’s degree candidates who are registered for master’s degree programmes may apply to convert to the doctoral degree programmes, subject to the following conditions:

  1. within 1 year for full-time and within 2 years for part-time candidates;
  2.  having shown competency and capability in conducting research at the doctoral level through rigorous internal evaluation by the HEP; and
  3. approval of the HEP Senate.

English Language Proficiency Requirements for International Students:

  1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 5.5
  2. Malaysian University English Test: 4.0 or
  3. Any other English proficiency qualification that is of equivalent level as determined by the Senate of the University.

List of Compulsory Courses:

PMS1101 Research Methodology

Candidate must successfully complete and pass research methodology course within the first two (2) semester of registering as a student at QIU.

PMS1102 Dissertation

This programme is a research programme leading to the submission of a dissertation as per the Faculty of Medicine Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Science’s dissertation guidebook.
