Programme Overview

The Master in Special Needs Education programme aims to produce graduates with advanced knowledge and professional competence in supporting learners with diverse learning needs across educational settings. The programme emphasises inclusive education, assessment and intervention strategies, evidence-based pedagogical practices, and ethical considerations in special needs education.

Graduates will be able to plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate educational support for learners with disabilities, learning difficulties, and developmental differences, and to work collaboratively with educators, families, and relevant professionals. The programme also provides pathways for professional practice, leadership, and further research in special needs education.

Minimum Entry Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Education field (Level 6, MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or its equivalent as accepted by the HEP Senate; OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in Education field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR
A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 must undergo prerequisite courses; OR
A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.00, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment AND must undergo prerequisite courses; OR
Non-degree holders (Malaysian & International) with at least a Diploma or any qualification equivalent to Level 4 MQF or Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysian (STPM) may obtain MQA Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (Access) [APEL.A] approval for programme admission. OR
Other qualifications equivalent recognised by the Malaysian Government as equivalent to the above requirements

English Competency Requirement for International student:
Minimum MUET Band 4 or IELTS 5.5

Prerequsite courses:

Educational Psychology (MSN2013)
Foundations of Educational Theories, Philosophy and Principles (MSN2023)
Language, Literacy and Communication in Special Needs Education (MSN2033)

Each block is divided into 2 phases: one phase = 5 weeks
