EDUCATION BY EXPERIENCE

"We believe that planting the seeds of curiosity in students from the outset will inspire them to make knowledge-seeking their quest in life."

Throughout life, you learn so much by doing and experiencing. It’s how you’ve learned in the past, and it’s how you’re going to learn once you graduate into the working world.

That’s why experiential learning is a core pillar of how we teach at QIU.

And whether it’s face-to-face or blended learning, our goal is simple. We’re not here to teach, we’re here to ensure learning.

This wealth of experience is a treasure trove for our students. Our lecturers are connected to the latest advancements in their respective fields, ensuring that our education remains relevant.

Our industry advisors and adjunct professors include leaders of international companies like Leo Burnett Malaysia, Universal Music, the Finisar Corporation, Samsung, Grab, Intel and BP; as well as award-winning scientists and high-profile entrepreneurs.

You’ll hone your skills not only in the classroom—but also in situations that replicate the challenges of the real world. Some examples include:

Pharmacy

QIU is the only private university to have an on-campus pilot plant, where students practice the process of creating medicines.

The student attachment period covers 20 weeks, including eight weeks in the industrial pharmacy and hospital/clinical pharmacy respectively and another four weeks in community pharmacies. Recently accredited for a maximum five-year period, it is one of the most extensive pharmacy programmes in the nation.

Culinary

In addition to a full in-house fine dining restaurant, bakery, and professional kitchen, culinary students learn how to grow and select their ingredients from a farm. In this way, they understand the full culinary process from the farm to the table.

Engineering

QIU is introducing a new curriculum where students undergo a yearly industrial attachment at prominent technology-based companies.

A typical engineering undergraduate would only undergo one session of industrial training in a four-year programme, but QIU’s students undergo three sessions throughout the four-year programme–providing them with an unrivalled level of industry exposure.

Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education programme is the first in Malaysia to employ competency-based course content.

Delivery methods are focused on project-based experiential learning. For instance, students are trained to develop teaching materials and toys with different approaches.

Communication

The University has a trailblazing student-run advertising agency run entirely by QIU’s Communication students. The students will get a first-hand taste of the real day-to-day challenges involved in an advertising agency—an experience that will make them prime targets in today’s fast-paced job market.

Computing

This programme allows multi-mode industry attachments which enhances students employability by giving them practical industry experience before graduation

Business

We are collaborating with industries to give students real industry projects that enhance their business, decision-making and project management skills in their final year.

LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

Our collaborations with professional bodies, educational institutions, and industrial firms open the door for you to gain qualifications, industry insight, and real-world exposure.

  • QIU is an official Examination Centre for the Northern region of Malaysia for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
  • We’re also the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) education provider in Ipoh. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Finance (Hons) and Bachelor of Science (Hons) Actuarial Sciences programmes will be automatically granted the Affiliate RFP designation and enjoy an expedited pathway to obtain RFP professional qualifications with six module exemptions from the total seven modules.
  • The University is also an official test centre for international English tests like the International English Language Test System (IELTS) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examinations.
