The Master of Medical Science (by Research) is a postgraduate degree designed to allow students to pursue research topics in a range of areas and disciplines within the scope of Medical Science.

The programme aims to equip postgraduates with advanced knowledge and specialised skills in medical sciences for impactful careers in research, healthcare, and academia.

Programme Education Objectives (PEO)

PEO1Medical science researchers who will possess scientific knowledge and analytical, digital and numerical skills to solve medical challenges globally.
PEO2Medical science researchers who will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written forms and develop strong personal and interpersonal skills enabling them to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
PEO3Medical science researchers who will demonstrate leadership potential that combine scientific knowledge with human values and ethics to provide sustainable healthcare solutions.
PEO4Medical science researchers who will exhibit highest standards of professionalism, enterpreneural skills and pursue lifelong learning in the field of medicine.

  1. A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6 Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) in Medical Science or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the QIU Senate; or
  2. A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in Medical Science or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
  3.  A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in Medical Science or related fields or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.

English Language Proficiency Requirements for International students: IELTS Academic: 5.5 or its equivalent (include MUET Band ≥ 4)

List of Compulsory Courses:

  • MMS1101 Research Methodology
    Candidate must successfully complete and pass research methodology course within the first two (2) semester of registering as a student at QIU.
  • MMS1102 Dissertation
    This programme is a research programme leading to the submission of a dissertation as per the Faculty of Medicine master’s dissertation guidebook.
