Programme Level

The Master in Special Needs Education programme aims to produce graduates with advanced knowledge and professional competence in supporting learners with diverse learning needs across educational settings. The programme emphasises inclusive education, assessment and intervention strategies, evidence-based pedagogical practices, and ethical considerations in special needs education.

Graduates will be able to plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate educational support for learners with disabilities, learning difficulties, and developmental differences, and to work collaboratively with educators, families, and relevant professionals. The programme also provides pathways for professional practice, leadership, and further research in special needs education.

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in the Education field [Level 6, Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQA) with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 or its equivalent as accepted by the Higher Education Provider (HEP) Senate; OR
  2. A Bachelor’s degree in the Education field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment: OR
  3. A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 must undergo prerequisite courses*; OR
  4. A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment AND must undergo prerequisite courses*; OR
  5. Other relevant equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian government as equivalent to the above requirements. 

 

English Competency Requirement:

  1. Achieve a minimum Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) OR equivalent to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (Mid B2) OR
  2. Minimum score of 60 in Internet-based Test (IBT)** or equivalent score for Paper based test (PBT) for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)**, OR
  3. Minimum score of 6.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)** ;OR
  4. Minimum score of 59 for Pearson English Test**; OR
  5. Other equivalent qualification.

 

*Prerequisite courses:

i.                              Educational Psychology

ii.                           Foundation of Education Theories, Philosophy, and Principles

iii.                        Language, Literacy, and Communication in Special Needs Education
