QIU Shines at VICE 2025 with Multiple Wins in Educational Innovation

QIU continued its strong tradition of excellence in educational innovation with multiple award-winning entries at this year’s Virtual Innovation Competition for Educators (VICE), organised by Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) Bangi!

We returned from the competition with a remarkable three gold awards and one silver award. Along with our previous successes in this field, the win further underlined our commitment to transform learning.

VICE is an annual platform designed to showcase forward-thinking ideas in administrative processes, teaching and learning, and institutional effectiveness—bringing together innovators from leading higher education institutions across Malaysia.

Participating institutions this year included UiTM Shah Alam, UPSI, UPTM, UNITAR (Kuantan), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Politeknik Ungku Omar, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia, Southern University College, University of Cyberjaya, UTP, USM, UNIMAS, OUM, and many others.

Here’s everything you need to know about our winners:

GOLD AWARDS

1. MUS AI IC

Project Leader: Assoc Prof Dr Suki Chin (Academic Affairs Department)
Team Members: Prof Dr Tina Lim, Ms Kan Poh Yi, Ms Hemasree Balakrishnan, Ms Amirah Fatinah Azmi (Academic Affairs Department)

The Model for University-wide Staggered Artificial Intelligence Integration in Classrooms (MUS AI IC) offers a structured and systematic blueprint for integrating Generative AI into teaching and learning across QIU. Developed in response to the rapid evolution of AI and its impact on academic practices, this model provides a clear, time-bound, and staggered implementation framework that supports inclusive adoption across all faculties. By reducing uncertainty, encouraging informed academic discourse, and positioning AI as a core educational tool, MUS AI IC aims to cultivate future-ready learners equipped to thrive in an AI-driven world.

2. I-Visuo Kad

Project Leader: Ms Ummu Hani (Faculty of Social Sciences)
Team Members: Prof Dr Aznan Che Ahmad, Ms Noor Eleena Nordin (Faculty of Social Sciences)
Category: Innovation in Teaching & Learning

I-Visuo Kad introduces a fresh approach to early childhood visual learning by combining high-contrast flashcards with Islamic values—an area often overlooked in early learning products. Based on research showing that newborns respond best to high-contrast visuals, the innovation offers two key benefits: strengthening print awareness for babies and young children, and providing parents and educators with Islamic-themed learning materials that support moral and spiritual development. The cards bridge scientific understanding and cultural needs, offering a meaningful alternative to common commercial flashcards.

3. Kamera NilaiKu

Project Leader: Ms Aimi Farina (Faculty of Social Sciences)
Team Member: Ms Aida Diyana Nabila (Faculty of Social Sciences)

Kamera NilaiKu is an imaginative, play-based learning tool designed to help preschoolers recognise and practise Islamic values in their daily interactions. Using a wooden toy camera, children “capture” good deeds—such as greeting others, sharing food, helping teachers, or reciting prayers—allowing them to internalise positive behaviours through active engagement. This creative approach encourages self-awareness, empathy and moral development, transforming everyday moments into opportunities for values-based learning.

SILVER AWARD

Transformative Teaching and Learning – Cham Peng (Read: Champion): Media, Culinary Arts and Communication Bootcamp

Project Leader: Mr Amirul Faiz (Faculty of Social Sciences)

This project addresses the limitations of traditional university programmes—particularly in fields like Media and Communication—where students are often confined to narrow specialisations. By integrating multidisciplinary skills and innovative learning methods into the curriculum, the initiative seeks to enhance graduates’ competitiveness in a fast-evolving job market. It demonstrates how diversified skill sets, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and flexible learning pathways can strengthen students’ creative capacity and employability.

This year’s achievements build on QIU’s growing reputation for excellence in the innovation landscape. In 2024, QIU academics Ms Ummu Hani and Ms Aimi Farina won awards in the same competition for their impactful educational products—cementing a multi-year streak of success.

QIU researchers also clinched dual awards at INNOCOM VI, recognised internationally for developing a groundbreaking app supporting children with special needs. These accomplishments highlight QIU’s commitment to transforming education through creativity, research, and real-world problem-solving.

Congratulations to this incredible set of achievements from a bevvy of QIU academics and administrators—a ringing endorsement of our commitment to quality and progress across a diverse range of faculties and departments. Well done, all!
