SEMB 2021: First Call for Submissions

The organising committee of SEMB 2021 is calling for abstract submissions for the oral and poster presentation components of the conference. All submitted abstracts will be subjected to a double-blind peer review process, after which the authors will be informed of abstract acceptance. Attendance at the conference will be confirmed upon payment of the registration fees.
The SEMB 2021 Organising Committee welcomes academic abstracts that can be organised into (but not limited to) the main themes and subthemes listed below:

Abstract submission guidelines for Oral, Poster, and Workshop Presentations
- Each presenting author is entitled to submit a maximum of three (3) abstracts, irrespective of the type of presentation.
- The acceptable word range for the abstract is 200 to 250 words.
- Please download the abstract template and follow the format carefully.
- Your submission should be in English.
- Please attach a brief biography of not more than 100 words together with the abstract.
- Submit your abstract here.
- A receipt acknowledging the abstract submission will be sent via an email within three working days.
- Presenters are eligible to register for the conference via Regfox once the abstract is accepted following the review process by the Academic Committee.
- All eligible presenters are required to submit a pre-recording of their presentation. The presentation guidelines can be found here.
Abstract Assessment Criteria
The Academic Committee will evaluate the submitted abstract as per the criteria below.
- Aims/objectives clearly stated
- Relevance to the conference
- Correct formatting
- Clarity of language
- Appropriateness of the research/study/ methodology
- Discussion and conclusion
Apart from the above, abstracts for workshop presentations will be assessed as per the following criteria:
- Relevance to the conference
- Professional association
- Review of your expertise, experience and/or past presentations
Abstract Review Process
- The double-blind peer review process will be conducted by the SEMB 2021 Academic and Technical Division.
- The final decision on abstract acceptance will be made by the SEMB 2021 Academic and Technical Chairperson.
- SEMB 2021’s team of reviewers are composed of established academics with previous peer review experience.
- The review process will take a maximum of four weeks.
- All abstracts, accepted or rejected, will be returned to the author with reviewer comments.
- Accepted abstracts with revisions must be returned to the Secretariat within a week of notification.
- Authors of accepted abstracts will be eligible to register for the conference.

All submitted abstracts will be eligible for publication in QIU’s Journal of Social Sciences and Business (JSSB), subject to recommendations from SEMB 2021’s board of reviewers. The JSSB is a biannual and peer-reviewed e-journal which accepts papers dealing with conceptual, theoretical and empirical concerns within the social-cultural, educational, political, economic and environmental contexts. Any enquiries on the journal can be directed to jssb.editor@qiu.edu.my. The submission guidelines will be updated on this platform nearer to the date of the conference.
