For any researcher, getting an international grant is a powerful recognition—both of your quality and the importance of your study.
We’re proud to announce that the Head of QIU’s School of Integrated Life Sciences Ts. Dr Magaret Sivapragasam is the latest recipient of this honour—after she successfully secured the Commonwealth Science Conference 2021 Follow-on Grant!
Dr Magaret received the grant with her counterpart Dr Kafilat Bawa-Allah from Nigeria’s University of Lagos. The follow-on grant was offered to selected participants from the Royal Society Commonwealth Science Conference 2021, which was held in February.
Their grant was titled “Elucidating the Potential Toxicity of Imidazolium-based Ionic Liquids Surfactants in Marine Ecosystems”. It came after Dr Magaret presented a poster on ionic liquids as a potential solvent of the future at the conference.
“I was lucky to be one of over 20 Malaysians selected by Akademi Sains Malaysia and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to attend the five-day conference,” said Dr Magaret.
“It was extremely exciting, as we managed to share our ideas and opinions about our respective regions’ ecosystems. We were also honoured by the presence of eminent leaders like His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales.”
“I’d like to thank my counterpart Dr Kafilat, as well as QIU for helping me get this opportunity,” she added.
Congratulations Dr Magaret, and keep doing us proud!
